SCHUNK Expert Days 2015: Service robotics explores new horizons

‘Service robotics: Probing new horizons’ is the motto of the eighth SCHUNK Expert Days on Service Robotics to be hosted by the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems, SCHUNK, from 25 – 26 February 2015 in Brackenheim-Hausen near Stuttgart. The worldwide leading communication platform for applied service robotics will provide a stage for progressive technological, economical and also political masterminds.

Schunk_Expert Days Hand_w600The market for service robotics is growing. According to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), about 21,000 service robots for professional applications were sold in 2013 with a total value of $ 3.6 billion. Emerging technologies and applications as well as innovative business models promise highly dynamic developments in the coming years.

International team of experts

The direction of these future developments will be the subject of the 8th SCHUNK Expert Days on Service Robotics. The program will feature high-profile service robotics experts from around the world. Some highlights of the agenda: Lijin Aryananda Ph.D. of Hocoma AG will give a talk on robot-assisted neuro-rehabilitation technology, Prof. Gordon Cheng of the TU Munich will present new possibilities for tactile sensor systems and Prof. Dr. Albert Amos of Bosch Start-up GmbH introduces concepts for expansion of service robotics in agriculture. Undersecretary Dr. Andreas Goerdeler of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy will talk about the political perspective on service robotics. Other speakers will include Valery Komissarova, Director of Business Development at Grishin Robotics in New York, Andrew Graham, Technical Director at OC Robotics in Bristol, Dr. Dirk Thomas, Software Engineer at the Open Source Robotics Foundation in Mountain View and Johann Hegel, Director of Technological Development in Assembly at Audi AG in Ingolstadt. The event will be chaired by the renowned MIT researcher Julie Shah and the robotics pioneer Martin Hägele, Department Head of Robot and Assistance Systems at the Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart.

Focus on applied service robotics

The SCHUNK Expert Days on Service Robotics will be held for the eighth consecutive year. The goal of the event is to create an international communication platform focusing on applied service robotics across industrial and research sectors. The limited number of participants, an accompanying practically-oriented exhibition and an attractive agenda with experts from around the world enable an intensive exchange between the different disciplines of service robotics.
