Designed for roughing and semi-finishing of steel and cast iron in turning applications, Seco’s new negative-styled M6 chipbreaker inserts provide excellent productivity and versatility. Available in a variety of double-sided geometries, the M6 includes a wide positive protection chamfer, a positive rake and a wide groove to achieve high edge strength, low energy consumption and efficient chip evacuation. The chipbreaker geometry provides high resistance against chipping, crater wear and flank wear, which results in optimal tool life.
To further boost productivity, the range includes double-sided, high-feed inserts. The M6 wiper design allows for higher feed rates, while delivering secure chip control, low cutting forces and reliable wear behaviour. Such benefits bring forth superior part quality and smooth surface finishes, eliminating the need for finishing operations in some applications.
The M6 is available in several Duratomic® grades, including TP0500, TP1500, TP2500 and TP3500 for steel operations and TK2001, which is primarily for nodular cast iron. The M6 in grades TP2500 and TP3500 provides an easy cutting action that offers strong performance in ferritic and martensitic stainless steels. Typical industry segments where M6 can provide a substantial benefit include general machining, automotive, bearings and pumps.
