Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Advanced Materials & Tools Company (President – Fumio Tsurumaki, Headquarters: 1-3-2 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has launched new PVD coated carbide grades for the AQX multi-functional indexable insert end mill series.
The AQX end mill has a good reputation as a multi-functional milling tool by adopting a centre cutting edge design. Five types of PVD coated carbide grades which deliver substantially better heat and wear resistance are now available. The accumulated Al-Ti-Cr-N based PVD coating with multi-layering of the coating prevents any cracks penetrating through to the substrate and dramatically improves fracture resistance.
Two new grades MP6120 and MP6130 have been added for machining steels and the new MP7130 and MP7140 have been added for machining stainless steels. Additionally, the MP9120 grade for machining titanium alloys has also been added to complement the existing range.
Features of the PVD coated carbide grade
1. MP6120 and MP6130 for machining steels provides superior resistance to thermal cracking and welding through the adoption of an (Al,Cr)N coating.
2. Through the use of TiN based components, MP7130 and MP7140 prevent flank and notch wear at the depth of cut line that can occur when machining stainless steels.
3. MP9120 with CrN coating, for machining of titanium alloys prevents a built-up edge that may cause chipping.
