Mazak to Showcase Advancements in Automotive Part Production at SEMA 2014

At the 2014 SEMA Show, taking place Nov. 4 – 7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Mazak will showcase advanced metalworking technology for specialty automotive part production. In booth 10519, the company will demonstrate how its latest small-footprint machine tools can bring increased productivity and profitability to high-performance custom and production shops.

Throughout the show, Mazak will have its VERTICAL CENTER UNIVERSAL (VCU) 400A 5X, VERTICAL CENTER UNIVERSAL (VCU) 500A and QUICK TURN SMART (QTS) 200M machines perform real-world cutting demonstrations of automotive parts.

Applications engineers will also be available to discuss the full benefits of these high-performance, high-value machines, which include unmatched accuracy, short part cycle times and the versatility to adapt to rapid shifts in production.

The VCU 400A 5X machining center employs a 5-axis rotary/tilt trunion table with durable, high-speed roller gear cam technology to affordably produce small complex parts up to 15.74″ in diameter and 12″ high. The machine’s standard 10,000-rpm, CAT 40 spindle is also available in 12,000 and 20,000 versions. Furthermore, a standard 30-tool or optional 40-tool storage capacity ensures continuous machining operation.

The simple but innovative VCU 500A vertical machining center with a 3-axis table brings advanced technology and production value to small parts processing for a variety of industries. This 3-axis machine accurately processes basic part geometries up to 19.68″ wide x 19.68″ deep x 12″ tall. And like the VCU 400 series, the machine’s standard 10,000-rpm CAT 40 spindle is also available in 12,000 and 20,000 versions.

The QTS 200M turning center provides high performance and unsurpassed production value for small to medium-sized parts. As an “M” configuration, the machine adds milling, drilling and tapping to its turning capability. This gives the machine multi-tasking abilities for even shorter part processing times. A 25-hp, 6,000-rpm spindle drives the machine’s 8″ chuck, providing ample power for machining a wide variety of materials. In addition, the 12-position turret and 4,500-rpm, 7.5-hp milling spindle provide true multi-tasking capability.

These are just three solutions within Mazak’s comprehensive selection of machine tools that meet the urgent demands and just-in-time logistics of the automotive part manufacturing industry. Whether SEMA attendees produce cylinder heads, brake discs or axle shafts, Mazak can help them identify the best machining technology for their needs.
