Yamazaki Mazak is exhibiting one ofits largest laser cutting machines, the 3D FABRI GEAR 220 II, at the Tube Düsseldorf 2014 exhibition, held on 7th – 11th April.
The 3D FABRI GEAR series has been specifically developed for high precision 3D laser cutting of complex or angled configurations of long pipe and structural materials used in the construction industry. The laser cutter is equipped with a 3D torch which enables movement on five different axes, which ensures that the machine is capable of cutting both closed and open profiles.
The 3D FABRI GEAR delivers industry-leading levels of accuracy by cutting vertically to ensure that the metal tubes sit flush against each other with no gaps. This reduces the need for jigs to hold the cut metal in place during construction prior to welding and reduces the amount of weld material, offering the benefit of faster weld times and greater strength from the weld. Mazak estimates that tube cut with the 3D FABRI GEAR can be welded and assembled twice as fast as conventionally cut tube.
The 3D FABRI GEAR is ideal for cutting long and heavy tube used in the construction industry, such as building structures, heating and ventilation systems, along with machinery applications including cranes and agricultural machinery. It has been used in a number of highly prestigious construction projects including the Yas Marina Formula One circuit in Abu Dhabi, the national football stadium in Gdansk, Poland, and the Tokyo Sky Tree, which is the world’s tallest broadcast tower, opened in May 2012.
As well as exhibiting its 3D FABRI GEAR, Mazak will also be promoting its TUBE GEAR 150 laser cutting machine tool which is aimed at users working with pipe up to 150mm in diameter; which comprises of 80% of the overall pipe processing market. The machine is capable of handling pipe materials up to 6.5m in length and a weight of 27kg/m. The TUBE GEAR 150 uses a 2D cutting head and also includes a bundle loader to offer a continuous feed of uniform parts to further improve overall operational efficiency.
It is ideally suited to those manufacturing office furniture, playground equipment, and leisure and health equipment.
Gaetano Lo Guzzo Laser Business Director for Yamazaki Mazak, comments: “In recent years we have invested in expanding our laser machine portfolio to satisfy the growing market demand from the construction and pipe processing industry industries. Our 3D FABRI GEAR offers customers a high precision machine which can provide a ‘done in one’ solution to deal with materials which have traditionally been difficult to machine in an efficient manner.
“Tube Düsseldorf is one of the pipe industry’s leading platforms so it is a fitting opportunity to not only showcase the capabilities of our 3D FABRI GEAR but to also promote our upcoming TUBE GEAR 150 laser machine tool targeted at those operating within the small pipe market.”
