Hexagon Metrology unveils new jogbox for Leitz CMMs

Wireless tablet-style control unit offers intuitive user interface for the touch-screen generation

Hexagon Metrology has announced the release of a brand new jogbox operating panel, which offers a more intuitive and user-friendly way for operators to interface with Leitz range coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).

The much-anticipated revamp is based on a modern tablet-style design, improving the unit ergonomics with the addition of a touch-screen central display alongside the two joystick controllers. The wireless device features integrated rechargeable batteries and comes with a mains-powered docking station, which can in turn be placed on an adjustable and moveable stand. All the machine control functions are displayed on the jogbox screen through a software app running on Android, making functionality more instinctive to minimise operator workload and training requirements.

“To design this new jogbox, we took inspiration from the mobile devices we see around us every day,” explained Micha Neininger, Product Manager at Hexagon Metrology. “Nowadays, people are accustomed to the flexibility of laptops and tablets. We expect to charge them on a docking station then pick them up and continue what we were doing. With this new jogbox, users get the same type of experience as they would with a smartphone – it’s a unique concept for a CMM controller and something that is really fun to work with.”

The revamped jogbox is available to order on new Leitz CMMs from the beginning of July. It will be displayed for the first time at Control 2015, which runs from 5 to 8 May at Landesmesse Stuttgart in Germany. For more information, visit Hexagon Metrology on Stand 5302 in Hall 5.
