EMO MILANO 2015 “lets build the future” presented in Rome

This morning in Rome there was the official presentation of EMO MILANO 2015, the world exhibition of machine tools, robots and automation, which will take place at Fieramilano from 5 to 10 October 2015, in conjunction with the great Universal Exposition EXPO.

1,600 exhibitors, 150,000 visitors, representing over 100 countries, more than 120,000 square meters net of exhibition surface: these are the figures expected and illustrated by Pier Luigi Streparava, General Commissioner of EMO MILANO 2015, during the presentation also attended by Luigi Galdabini, President of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the Association of machine tool, robot and automation manufacturers that is organizing the event, Andrea Meloni, General Manager for the promotion of the country system, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Luongo, General Manager of ICE (Italian Institute for Foreign Trade) and, finally, Giorgio Squinzi, President of CONFINDUSTRIA (Italian Industrial Federation).

Alternately hosted by Italy and Germany, EMO is the main exhibition for the international operators of the manufacturing industry, who will meet in Milan next autumn, coming from all over the world for a six-day, full-immersion event among the novelties proposed by the major worldwide players. In the halls of fieramilano Rho-Pero the largest factory in the world will be set up. There will be a wide range of products on display: machine tools, robots, automation, additive manufacturing, mechatronic solutions and auxiliary technologies.

To date, over 110,000 square meters net of exhibition surface have already been booked; if the trend of applications to exhibit at EMO remains on the levels registered up to now, the event, for which the whole exhibition fairground fieramilano Rho-Pero has been reserved, may exceed 120,000 square meters. More than 1,300 companies have already sent their applications to exhibit at EMO MILANO 2015. On top of the ranking are the Italians, closely followed by the Germans; the Taiwanese rank third with regard to the number of participations, followed by the Chinese and the Swiss.

On the scene there will be the best of a sector which today is worth 64 billion euro (world production), however likely to increase in a strong way already in the next three years, driven by the recovery of the world consumption of production systems.

According to the figures processed by the international, econometric Institute Oxford Economics, after a period of general recession, starting from the present year, the world consumption of machine tools will grow again constantly to achieve 71 billion euro in 2018 (+18% versus 2015).

Even if all the main industrialized areas will be involved, the increase in the demand for machine tools will not be uniformly distributed.

Asia is and will confirm to be the most important area with regard to consumption of production systems. Even the increase expected in the period 2015-2018 will be higher in comparison with those attained in the other areas of the world. In particular, the Asian consumption will grow from 34.8 billion euro in 2015, to 42.3 billion euro in 2018 (almost a double value versus 2008), thus recording a 21.6% upturn.
The Asian consumption rate on the total world consumption amounts to 58.1%, in 2015, and in 2018 it will almost reach 60%.

Europe, second consumption area, will report a growth in the demand for machine tools from 14.8 billion euro in 2015 to 17.2 billion in 2018 (+16.2%).

The European consumption rate is slightly decreasing on the worldwide total: 24.8% in 2015, 24.3% in 2018.
In the Americas the consumption will rise from 10.2 billion euro in 2015, to 11.4 billion in 2018 (+11.8%)
In comparison to Europe, the reduction of the consumption rate in the Americas on the worldwide total, is more evident: it will decrease from 17.1% in 2015, to 16.1% in 2018.

In 2018, China alone will take up 45% of the world consumption of machine tools.

In the European panorama, Italy proves to have greater sprint compared to the whole area and to Germany with which it shares the title of leading country not only in the sector, but also in the whole manufacturing activity. In particular, the consumption of machine tools only will increase from 1.6 billion euro to over 2 billion (+23%).

On the other hand, internationally, the Italian industry of the sector ranks fourth among the manufacturers and third among the exporters. Also for this reason Italy is the only country, – along with Germany – to host EMO that, for this edition, opens under the best auspices, considering the already started recovery.

A confirmation of these good prospects is given by the recent data processed by Centro Studi & Cultura di Impresa (Studies Dept. & Business Culture) of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, according to which also Italy is investing in machine tools again, as a demonstration that the Italian manufacturing industry has taken the route of recovery.

In 2014, the index of orders of machine tools collected by the Italian manufacturers has indeed shown a 14.7% average increase versus 2013. The outcome has been determined by the positive trend of performances on the foreign market (+10.1%), as well as by the excellent results of the domestic market (+37.2%). These figures are confirming the beginning of a new period of development that will materialize in stronger and stronger increases, to the complete benefit of those who will take part in EMO MILANO 2015.
