EMAG Showcasing Revolutionary CNC Technologies at CIMES 2014

The German company is demonstrating their latest technologies at the ongoing CIMES 2014. EMAG is showcasing live action of VT 2-4 – The turning machine for vertical 4-axis shaft machining, VL 2 – Vertical pick-up turning machines, ELDEC MIND-M – Compact Hardening Systems, Gear Hobbing Machines KOEPFER K 200 and VLC 250 DS – Combination turning & grinding at booth W1-A201. EMAG has a manufacturing unit in China to serve Chines and Indian market timely delivery & lesser cost.

emag1VT 2-4
Four axes, short travels, powerful mainspindle – these are the strengths of the VT 2-4 turning machines. The full impact can be best felt where the component batches are large. Of decisive importance in the use of these turning machines is the “two-sided” machining process, which massively reduces the machining time on the VT 2-4 turning machine.
Flexibility is guaranteed with the use of two tool turrets with eleven stations each, all of which can be equipped with turning tools and driven tools. Automation is fully integrated on these turning machines.

On the VT 2-4 turning machines it is the turret that does the loading and unloading. Whilst one gripper (in the turret) conveys a new raw-part into the turning machine, the other one removes the finish-machined component, with the whole process taking just 6 seconds.

VL 2
The basic VL 2 machine, a three-axis vertical chuck turning machine, catches the eye due to its design. Its basis is the machine body made of MINERALIT® polymer concrete. The working spindle is mounted on the front of the machine body on a compound slide which completes movements in the X- and Z-axes. The turret below the working spindle can hold up to twelve turning or driven tools.

emag3ELDEC MIND-M
The MIND-M offers a high degree of precision and reliability at comparably low investment costs. Simple heat treatment tasks with a maximum power requirement of 30 kW at high frequency (HF) or 100 kW at medium frequency (MF) applications can be processed with the MIND-M. Energy source, cooling system and process cell are combined on a single machine base to save space.

The MIND-M is fitted with an X, Y and Z axis for positioning the inductor versus the workpiece, a main spindle drive for workpiece rotation, as well as a temperature and thus flow-controlled spray for the quenching medium. A tailstock module with centring pin enables secure clamping of workpieces between the centring points. Loading of the unit can be performed either manually or automatically within the process chain with the aid of a loading module. In combination with a 180° adapter plate this can also be carried out in parallel with heat treatment.

KOEPFER K 200
At least eight activated CNC axes and a fully automatic loading system make for an extremely flexible system for gear hobbing, which is tailored precisely to suit the specific needs of the customer. Another benefit is that the components can undergo initial soft milling and hard final machining with guaranteed high quality.

emag5VLC 250 DS
The VLC 250 DS has been designed for the process-capable, low-cost, precision manufacture of medium and large component batches. Typical workpieces are gearwheels, sprockets, sliding sleeves, components for CVTs, link pins, con-rods, rocker arms, bearing rings and piston rings.

The VLC 250 DS combines the advantages of vertical hard turning and grinding – on one machine and in one setup. This combination leads to considerable process chain consolidation, demands less investment, lowers unit production costs, makes for shorter throughput times, higher component quality, greater process integrity and a smaller footprint, and reduces the maintenance requirement.
